General Rules

These rules apply to ALL competitions at QuakeCon 2007.

General rules are meant to complement game-specific rules. Participants are required to abide by both general and game-specific rules at all times. Should general and game-specific rules contradict each other, the game-specific rule will take precedence.

By registering and participating in the event, each participant agrees to be bound by the rules of the event.

Every participant is responsible for knowing and understanding the QuakeCon 2007 general rules and procedures, and rules and procedures specific to their competitions.

  • By participating in the event, each participant grants to the QuakeCon Organization, together with id Software and QuakeCon's sponsors, the right to use the player's name, image and/or the likeness including (but not limited to) photographs, video recordings, audio recordings for the purpose of advertising or promotional purposes, without further consent or consideration to the player.
  • By participating in the tournament and/or receiving prizes, each participant releases id Software, QuakeCon 2007 and its sponsors, and each of their employees, from any and all liability for any loss, damage, injury, breach of warranty or other harm arising from or related to the event.
  • Quad Damage Tournament players and Enemy Territory: Quake War team representatives MUST attend tournament check-in on-site. This is separate from standard event registration which will be online. The times for registration will be posted prior to the event.
  • When the competition reaches a point where subsequent winners will be entitled to a portion of the prize pool (greater than 9th place in Quad Damage and greater than 5th place in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars) all remaining players will be required to complete and submit requisite tax forms before competition will resume. Failure to submit the required information will result in immediate disqualification from the event and forfeiture of any entitled winnings.
  • Players are solely responsible for the payment of any taxes required by any government entity on any monies won by virtue of participation in the tournament.
  • Failure to report to tournament area for check-in within the scheduled times will result in the forfeiture of the player's spot in the tournament. First come first serve/waiting list registration will begin immediately after on-site check-in ends.
  • Quad Damage Tournament players will be required to use the MyGameRoom SLANT tournament management software on-site.
  • Players must check-in at the tournament area at least 20 minutes prior to any match. All players must be ready to play by match time. Failure to arrive at the tournament area at least 20 minutes prior to the start of a player's scheduled match will result in a forfeiture of the scheduled match by the player. This rule will be strictly enforced.
  • All players are expected to conduct themselves appropriately at all times. Loud and/or abusive language, excessive swearing, and other forms of disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. The Director of Competitions may, in his or her sole discretion, remove any player for violation of this rule.
  • Player names may not contain offensive words. This is left up to the discretion of the tournament officials. Any player names found to be offensive must be changed immediately upon notification.
  • No flash photography will be permitted around the tournament area during matches.
  • Players will need to supply their own headphones. Speakers may not be used in the tournament. Players may additionally use their own mice and keyboards.
  • Client machines will be provided with default drivers installed only. Players are encouraged to bring any additional drivers required and game configurations on a USB Pen/Flash Drive.
  • Players must present valid identification and their QuakeCon 2007 badges for each round of the tournament.
  • Any match in any tournament may be shoutcasted or broadcast on GTV or any other authorized media source. By participating in this tournament the teams agree to their matches being shoutcasted or publicized on GTV or any other media source. All shoutcasts and GTV casts are delayed by at least 30 seconds. Only officially sanctioned shoutcasters and GTV admins will be permitted to broadcast tournament matches.
  • Only QuakeCon officials and officially sanctioned spectators (shoutcasters, GTV admins, etc) will be allowed to observe matches within the tournament area. Player coaches and/or team managers are not allowed in the competition area.
  • The QuakeCon servers will automatically require the client to record demos and take end-map screenshots. All demos and screenshots taken by players, official observers and the server are subject to publication.
  • No unauthorized 3rd party applications (such as timers, 3rd party video drivers, etc.) or other modifications may be made to the game without explicit pre-approval from the tournament staff. Violation of this rule will result in immediate dismissal from the tournament.
  • If a server or client machine crashes during a match, players will be asked if they wish to restart the match from the beginning, or if one of the players wishes to concede the match.
  • Players willfully disconnecting prior to the conclusion of a match will forfeit the match.
  • Spectators may not interact with players during the match and must stay outside the roped-off area. Spectators making excessive noise during matches will be removed from the tournament area. Spectators playing in any of the tournaments may be removed from all competition for failure to comply with the spectator rules at the sole discretion of the Director of Competitions.
  • All participants must leave the tournament play area immediately following the conclusion of their match. All participants are welcome to observe from the spectator area, but must be clear of the play area if not currently involved in a match. Failure to comply with this rule may result in your removal from the tournament.
  • The Director of Competitions may, in his sole discretion, suspend or modify any rule if, in his judgment, a modification is necessary to preserve the integrity of the tournament, or to prevent cheating or unfair circumstance.
  • All decisions of the Tournament Staff are binding, appeals may be made to the Director of Competitions, whose decisions are final.
  • All deadlines and times for tournament matches will be based on Central Daylight Time (GMT-5.)
  • All rules are subject to change at any time without advance notice.

Cheating and Rule Violations

  • Attempted fraud of any kind is grounds for immediate disqualification.
  • PunkBuster in-game anti-cheat system will be used for all Quake 3, Quake 4, and Enemy Territory: Quake War matches
    • If a player is kicked or banned from a server during a match for any PB violation, the player will not be allowed to rejoin the match.
    • Any PB violation may result in disciplinary action, up to and including disqualification from the competitions
  • Device drivers which permit players to see through walls, or enable any form of transparency not intended by id Software and Splash Damage, are strictly forbidden and grounds for immediate removal from the tournament.
  • Players may use in-game aliases, binds and scripts. However, no alias may be used which assists players in determining spawn times, or performing any action which in any way inhibits the ability of an opponent to perform a legal action in the game.
  • Except for device drivers and settings, no commands are allowed outside the game or in the command line.
  • Except for device drivers and settings, no alteration, deletion, or addition of files is permitted.
  • Player models, colors, and names must remain the same throughout the match.
  • Any player actions that allow seeing through walls, player warping, message spamming, auto-aim, radar, or similar action will be considered cheating and grounds for disqualification.
  • Questions regarding setting of variables and commands and how they relate to cheating should be brought to a tournament official before your first match.
  • There will be zero tolerance for cheating. If a player is caught cheating; they will face disciplinary action up to and including disqualification from the competition

Rule Violations

  • Players who violate any of the above-mentioned rules are subject to disciplinary action, up to, and including, removal from the competition(s).
  • Disciplinary action will be distributed at the discretion of the tournament administration.
  • Abusive teams will be removed from the event. Any team that is repeatedly abusive (including degrading language, spamming, server crashing, etc.) may be removed from the event.

Disputes

  • Any disputes must be filed to a tournament official no later than 30 minutes after a match's conclusion. Following that, the match results become permanent and cannot be appealed.
  • Disputes about matches will be handled through rulings by Tournament Staff.
    • Individual players and teams will be interviewed separately by Tournament Staff.
    • The Director of Competition's rulings are final in all matters.
  • Accusations unsupported by evidence are grounds for removal from the tournament.

Scheduling

  • Initial schedules for all Tournament Round 1 matches will be posted prior to the event.
  • Scheduling for subsequent Tournament Rounds will be performed during the event and will be made available on the internal web site.
  • If the Tournament Staff must modify any scheduled rounds, attempts will be made to use the contact information provided by the contestants at registration to notify players of changes
  • It is the ultimate responsibility of the contestants to remain informed of scheduling changes. Inability to receive notification from the tournament staff is not grounds for rescheduling.
  • All rescheduling will allow players to have at least 20 minutes to report to the tournament area for a match.
  • NOTE: In the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars loser's bracket there may be an instance of a team having to play back to back matches during the tournament.
  • It is assumed that all players are available to compete in tournament matches at any time between 12:00 p.m. August 2nd, 2007 and 12:00 AM August 5th, 2007. Matches may be scheduled & rescheduled for any time between those hours.

Registration

  • Quad Damage Tournament players and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars teams will be required to register for the competitions on-line, prior to the event.
  • All competitors will need to have an account on the QuakeCon website to register for the tournaments
  • Players are allowed to compete in multiple tournaments, but any scheduling conflicts will result in the player having to forfeit one of the conflicting matches.
  • Registration dates will be announced on the QuakeCon website (http://www.quakecon.org)
  • The 256 Quad Damage Tournament spots will be filled first come, first served. Remaining registered players will be placed on a waiting list.
  • The 32 Enemy Territory: Quake Wars spots will be filled first come, first served.
    • A single team representative will create a team within the QuakeCon tournament registration system and will select a team password.
    • Team members will use this password along with the team name to register for said team.
    • Teams will need to meet the minimum roster size to be validated in the registration system.
    • Once 32 teams of the minimum roster size have registered, registration will be closed. Additional validated teams will be placed upon a waiting list.
  • Quad Damage Tournament participants will be required to provide the following information:
    • Full Legal Name
    • Player nickname/handle
    • Valid email address
    • Optional: Telephone contact number for possible SMS messaging during event
  • Enemy Territory: Quake Wars participants may have a single representative to register and check-in all team members. All members need not be present for registration or on-site check-in.
    • Minimum Roster Size: 6 players
    • Maximum Roster Size: 8 players
    • Teams will need to submit the following information:
      • Team Name
      • Individual player full legal names
      • Individual player nicks/handles
      • Valid Email Address for all team members
      • Designation of team representative
      • Optional: Telephone contact number for possible SMS messaging during event
  • Tournament pre-registration will end on Friday July 27th, 2007
  • Check-in for tournaments will begin on Thursday August, 2nd at 9:00 a.m. and last until 11:30 AM. All Quad Damage players and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars team representatives must be check-in at tournament area during at this time period, or face possible forfeiture.
  • Waiting List - Wait listed teams and players are not - in any way - guaranteed a position in the tournament. Wait-listed teams and players are encouraged to keep in touch with Tournament Staff to ensure their opportunity to compete.
    • If a player or team removes themselves from competition prior to the end of pre-registration, the next registered player or complete team on the waiting list will be advanced.
    • Once on-site, if a player or team fails to check-in by 11:30 AM Thursday August 2nd, all remaining positions will be filled first come, first served regardless of a player or team’s position on the waiting list.
  • If a team or player is removed from the competition prior to, or during the first Tournament Rounds, a wait-listed player or team may be selected by Tournament Officials to replace them.
